Out With The Old (Floors)

Dan has been a very busy bee lately—Actually superhero is more like it! He has been in the process of tearing up and removing the flooring in our entire house. At just under 1900 square feet, you can imagine how long this takes. There was carpet throughout most of the house (including the bathrooms), which came up without too much trouble. Unfortunately, he found vinyl tile squares and linoleum under some of the carpet. The tile throughout the kitchen, front entry, and living room was also laid on top of linoleum, making it difficult to remove.

Dan’s dad Roger helped scrape vinyl floor tiles last weekend by hand, which was a huge help. Then Dan rented a demo hammer and tile scraper from Home Depot to chip up the ceramic tile, which took about 15 hours total over 2 grueling days. I felt so badly for him because the noise was so loud, I could hear it from my car when I turned the corner. He truly is amazing; he did all this by himself and would not let me help at all, and did it without complaining. Thanks babe for saving us lots of money and for doing a top notch job taking up the floors… You are my hero!

Sarah’s uncle, who owned a tile business before retiring, offered to install tile in the bathrooms (a natural stone color). We’ll have light brown or beige carpet installed in the master and guest bedrooms. Dan will install medium color hardwood floors everywhere else. Stay tuned for pictures!

  1. You guys are doing amazing! I love seeing the work in progress. I think you should restore the original linoleum….I hear it’s coming back in. Not really. I made that up.
